Consideration of a Resolution Authorizing the Amendment to the Employee <br />Cafeteria Plan Effective January 1, 2015. Report No. 14-316. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter stated the City has had an employee cafeteria plan for many years. The plan provides <br />employees with the opportunity to use pre-tax dollars to pay certain benefit costs by entering into a salary <br />reduction arrangement. Under federal tax laws (IRS), the arrangement allows employees to save social <br />security and income taxes on the amount of the salary reduction. She explained that the IRS has increased the <br />maximum limit that can be contributed to a health care reimbursement account from $2,500 to $2,550. He <br />explained that staff would like to amend its plan to match this limit and recommended the Council adopt a <br />Resolution authorizing the amendment to the employee cafeteria plan effective January 1, 2015. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to adopt a Resolution <br />authorizing the amendment to the employee cafeteria plan effective January 1, 2015. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter appreciated the Council’s comments regarding the budget and for the <br />months of work involved in getting to this point. He reported this was a highly demanding <br />year for him and a great deal was accomplished in New Brighton. He provided comment on <br />the City’s achievements in 2014. He was pleased with the financial position the City was in <br />going into the future. He believed New Brighton was an amazing community to live and work <br />in. He appreciated the Council’s continued support, availability, flexibility and leadership. He <br />looked forward to another great year in 2015. <br /> <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported she recently attended a Cable Commission meeting. She <br />anticipated that the group would continue to change over the next year and has agreed to meet <br />only six times in the next year. She explained that cost savings measures were currently being <br />reviewed by the group. She believed that Shoreview was still withdrawing from the group. <br />She was excited that CenturyLink was interested in bringing their cable products to the metro <br />area. This would provide residents with another option for their cable television and high <br />speed internet needs. Further discussion ensued regarding the plans CenturyLink had for the <br />north metro suburbs. She wished everyone a very Merry Christmas. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the EDC would not meet in December. He requested the <br />Council consider holding a joint EDC meeting early in 2015. He thanked the residents and <br />local business owners for making New Brighton a great community. He thanked the Council <br />for addressing the business of the City in a professional manner. He thanked staff for their <br />efforts on behalf of the City and its residents. He wished everyone a safe and Happy Holiday <br />season. <br /> <br />Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Strub wished everyone Happy Holidays.
