City of New Brighton <br /> <br />JONES LAKE RECREATION AREA <br /> <br />History <br /> <br /> <br />March 1998 Council approved the preparation of a master plan for the <br />Jones Lake recreation area. Ingraham & Associates was <br />hired and prepared 3 alternative concept plans. <br /> <br />December 1998 A public opinion survey of New Brighton residents was <br />conducted by Decision Resources, Inc. The results of the <br />parks and recreation portion of the survey were as follows. <br /> <br />73% supported additions to the City’s biking and <br />walking trails. <br /> <br />72% supported improvements to the existing <br />neighborhood parks <br /> <br />67% supported development of natural passive park <br />areas <br /> <br />August 1999 Jones Lake included in City’s Comprehensive Plan Update <br />as an opportunity to acquire park land to meet the specific <br />community needs for open space and recreation. <br /> <br />The Comp Plan also identified the following issues that will <br />need to be addressed during the next 5 years. <br /> <br />1. What is the best method for adding trails in a fully <br />developed community? <br /> <br />2. What is the best way to improve undeveloped <br />natural areas? <br /> <br />3. Should new park land be acquired and <br />developed? <br /> <br />4. What is the best method of paying for park <br />improvements? <br /> <br /> <br />
