Of <br />IjrNEW <br />BRIGHTON <br />the city that works for you <br />Council Worksession <br />May 12, 2015 <br />5:00 pm <br />Present: Mayor Dave Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Mary Burg <br />Absent: <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Sandy Breuer, Brenda Davitt <br />Guests in Attendance: Jason Hicks, Chris Wolla, Carolyn Stutsman- KDV <br />Sunny _Square Ice Rink Recap and Recommendation <br />Sandy Breuer explained that Jason Hicks was in attendance to provide the Council with a presentation on this <br />item. <br />Jason Hicks discussed the City's outdoor ice season in detail with the Council. He reviewed the usage at <br />Hanson, Freedom and Sunny Square parks. He reported that this information was presented to PREC last <br />week and the group recommends that the City continue to maintain all the three rinks with the for Sunny <br />Square to reflect more closely to the hours of operation for Hanson and Freedom. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if the rinks had broomball or hockey leagues. Mr. Hicks explained that the <br />rinks operated on a first come first served basis and did not house any broomball or hockey leagues. <br />Councilmember Bauman thanked Mr. Hicks and all of the volunteers that assisted with these three ice rinks. <br />She appreciated the partnership the City had in place and was in favor of the three rinks continuing for the <br />2015 -2016 season. <br />Mayor Jacobsen explained that he neighbored Sunny Square Park and was well aware of the park usage. He <br />was pleased by the ice rinks success and thanked Mr. Hicks for arranging volunteers. He supported PREC's <br />recommendations. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen agreed. <br />Councilmember Strub noted he skated at all three of the City's ice rinks this winter. He suggested that <br />additional work be done by the City to encouraged children to use the City's rinks. <br />Councilmember Burg thanked Mr. Hicks for his thorough report. She appreciated his efforts in pursuing <br />volunteers to assist with the ice rink noting that the park has really been revitalized through Mr. Hicks' efforts. <br />She believed that the next skating season would be much easier to staff. <br />Mayor Jacobsen agreed and thanked Mr. Hicks again for his presentation. He explained the Council was in <br />support of PREC's recommendation. <br />
