June 9, 2015 Page 3 of 4 <br />He reported the CAT recommends that the Council authorize the City Manager to keep the water <br />conservation measures in place as long as necessary to provide for the health, safety and general welfare of <br />New Brighton residents and businesses. <br />Councilmember StnJb requested further information on the City's current water usage. Community Assets & <br />Development Director Schlichting reported the City currently used 2 million gallons of water per day. This <br />was divided between residents and businesses in the City. He stated at the weather ramps up, additional water <br />was used to sprinkle yards and gardens. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked what the peak water use was during the summer months. Community <br />Assets & Development Director Schlichting commented that the City could provide 4.5 million gallons of <br />water through the Mt. Sinai wells. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen questioned if the City would allow for extra watering off new sod and seed. <br />Community Assets & Development Director Schlichting indicated the City would make an exception for <br />properties with new sod or seed. He reported the City would work with public safety to monitor this situation. <br />Councilmember Bauman appreciated staff's thorough report. She noted that some homeowners on Long <br />Lake use lake water to sprinkle their grass. She commended staff for being proactive in addressing the City's <br />water concerns. <br />Mayor Jacobsen believed the constant i imniton ng by staffwould assist in properly educating the public. <br />Motion by Councilmember Bauman, seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to recommend the City <br />establish a water conservation program authorizing the City Manager to implement water restrictions <br />when the demand for water is close to exceeding the City's supply capabilities and when the public <br />water reserve capacities are insufficient to protect the community. <br />4 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reuorts, Announcements and Umlatcs <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported several members of staff recently traveled the Tucson to visit a <br />water treatment plant. A summary of the trip would be provided to Council on Wednesday, <br />June 101" <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmerber Bauman reported the EDC met on June 3`d. The EDC discussed the TIF <br />Management Plan Update. She thanked Mark huff and Jeanne Voigt from Ehlers & <br />Associates for their presentation. She indicated the EDC would meet next on July 15c <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Planning Commission would meet on June 16t ". He <br />stated he would be attending the League of Minnesota Cities Conference in Duluth, Minnesota <br />June 24 -26, 2015. <br />Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Strub reported the Public Safety Commission would meet on Monday, June <br />29th at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Safety meeting.
