City Clerk Haarstad commented that the <br />Council could change the polling locations on a yearly basis. <br />Councilmember Strub respected the safety of the schools and their students, however, he was <br />in favor of staff engaging the school board to see if Sunnyside Elementary or Irondale High <br />School could be used as a polling location. <br />Councilmember Bauman supported Irondale High School being pursued as a polling location <br />versus the elementary school. She questioned if the Council could delay action on this item to <br />allow staff additional time to speak with the school board. City Clerk Haarstad reported the <br />City was well within the statutory timeline, however there was also a practical timeline that <br />should be observed. She indicated she was trying to get the City's polling districts resolved for <br />the benefit of Ramsey County. She believed that the Council could delay action on this until <br />the July 13th meeting. <br />Councilmember Burg questioned if the Council should approve the precinct map as presented, <br />except for District 8. City Clerk Haarstad stated this would be another option for the Council. <br />Councilmember Bauman supported this recommendation. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to adopt a Resolution <br />approving the updated precinct map and establishing polling places for Districts 1-7, and directing <br />staff to report back with additional polling locations for District 8; and authorizing the City Clerk to <br />enter into polling place agreements with the various facility managers (Districts 1-7). <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Rei)orts, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported a resident expressed concern with the City's water situation this <br />evening. He indicated that the City was seeking alternative sources of water outside of the Mt. <br />Sinai -Hinkley well. He commented staff was reaching out to other municipalities and will <br />continue to address this concern. He stated staff was drafting a letter for New Brighton <br />residents that would keep them informed on the water situation, he reported the July newsletter <br />would have additional information on water conservation efforts. He provided further <br />comment on this trip to Tucson, AZ and the work staff was conducting with the Army to <br />address water solutions. He discussed the current odd/even watering ban and noted staff was <br />monitoring how the ban was impacting the City's water supply. He explained why the <br />odd/even watering ban was not enforced in the past and commented how the City would be <br />managing the situation at present. <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported that the Planning Commission met on June 16th. The group <br />discussed the AN helipad along with a draft Shoreland Ordinance. He stated he would be <br />attending the League of Minnesota Cities Conference June 24-26. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the Cable Commission met on May 30th. Another meeting <br />was held on June 9th between the Cable Commission lawyers and CenturyLink representatives. <br />She explained that negotiations with CenturyLink would continue over the coming months. <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported the City Forester has been out trimming trees and boulevard <br />obstructions.
