July 14, 201 <br />did not believe that the street adjacent to Sunnyside Square Neighborliood Center could be safety used for <br />parking on both sides of the street She was uncomfortable with this as a polling site. City Clerk Haarstad <br />reported that no -parking signs would be posted on one side of the street for safety purposes. She noted that <br />handicap parking would be designated for voters. <br />Councilmember Bauman asked if Atonement Church had been contacted as a potential polling location for <br />Precinct 8. City Clerk Haarstad commented she had not contacted this organimbon. <br />Councilmember Bauman stated she could not support Sunnyside Square Neighbo> licx'd Center as a polling <br />location. <br />Mayor Jacobsen explained that he lived next to Sunnyside Park and has monitored the traffic coming in and <br />out of the park for ball games and other events. Based on his observation, he did not believe there would be a <br />concern. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen shared some of Councilmember Bauman's concerns. He noted there were no <br />handicap parking spaces designated. City Clerk Haarstad stated staff s intent was to block two spots within <br />the lot for handicap parking. <br />Councilmember Burg stated 2015 was not a presidential election year and for this reason, she believed that <br />Sunnyside Park would work as a polling location for Precinct 8. She suggested that the golf course be <br />contacted as a potential polling location for Precinct 8 in 2016. City Clerk Haarstad reported that the golf <br />course was contacted and alcohol would have to not be served on primary and election days in order to use <br />this site as a polling location. <br />Motion by Councihnember Burg, seconded by Councihnember Strub to adopt a Resolution <br />establishing the Sunny Square Neighborhood Center located at 2200 Sunnyside Terrace as the polling <br />location for Precinct 8. <br />3 Ayes, 2 Nays (Bauman and Jacobsen opposed) -Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported staff would be holding a two-day retreat to assist in preparing the <br />2016 budget next week. He explained that the utilization of debt would be a main focus for the <br />Council to discuss on July 28th. He discussed the Met Council Policy Committees that staff <br />would be sitting in on. He indicated that Jim Miller would be retiring from the League of <br />Minnesota Cities. <br />Marry 13111. <br />Councilmember Burg reported that the Council approved new playground equipment for <br />Totem Pole Park. She encouraged the public to assist with the demolition and reconstruction <br />of the park. She discussed the watering ban and encouraged residents to conserve water <br />through this rest of the summer. She also encouraged residents to visit the City's local <br />restaurants and enjoy the outdoor dining. She explained that the Park and Recreation <br />Commission would meet again on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the EDC did not meet in July. She provided the Council <br />with an update from the Cable Commission regardin the CenturyLink franchise.
