Further discussion ensued regarding the value of completing employee surveys on a more routine basis. <br />;Hatch provided further comment on the survey results and asked for comments or questions from the Council. <br />jHe stated the City scored well in that employees believe in the work they do, supervisors are viewed as <br />approachable and employees feel they are responsive and provide equality service to New Brighton residents. <br />Areas for the City to grow and do better are that employees want more development and training opportunities, <br />be offered more recognition, appreciation and opportunities for advancement. <br />Councilmember Strub believed it was important for management and the Council to view the comments <br />received from the employees. He asked how staff planned to use the information gathered. Lotter explained it <br />would be important for staff to consider and act on the feedback received to ensure that the employee's feel <br />their voices have been heard and that their comments have value. <br />Councilmember Bauman discussed the power of positive encouragement and how this would benefit the City's <br />employees. <br />Councilmember Burg was pleased with the results when compared to the 2005 survey. She believed that <br />management was doing well and the City was heading in the right direction. <br />The Council discussed an upcoming employee appreciation event that was being planned. <br />Lotter noted that staff would be addressing the survey findings with staff. <br />Interim Water Response <br />Lotter discussed how the City has been addressing the water situation. He explained that water conservation <br />measures should be considered for this summer, during the months of July and August. His concerns for the <br />Mt. Sinai aquifer were addressed, along with contingency plans for the coming year. <br />Councilmember Bauman appreciated the City's response to this issue and was pleased how staff addressed this <br />concern at the Town Hall meeting. She questioned how long it would be before the City was taking action to <br />correct the water contamination situation. Lotter discussed how the City was approaching this situation and <br />noted several more meetings had to be held with adjacent communities before action could be taken. He <br />explained that emails have been sent to the MPGA. It was his hope that the MPCA would take the lead on this <br />matter. He indicated that his primary concern would remain the City of New Brighton. <br />Councilmember Strub suggested the City's webpage have an area designated to respond to this concern. <br />Lotter stated that he could set up a separate list serve for this issue in order to keep residents informed on this <br />topic. He explained that water conservation efforts could be another effort for residents to consider. <br />Schlichting reviewed the capacity and water levels of the City's wells and offered several recommendations on <br />how the Council could address water conservation efforts head on. <br />Scott Boller discussed how the City would manage a power outage at the water treatment plant, along with the <br />providing comment on the backup generator. <br />Councilmember Bauman requested staff see if another backup generator was available from a surrounding <br />community. <br />
