February 10, 2015 Page 2 of 5 <br />4 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br />Commission Minutes <br />Mayor Jacobsen received the following minutes on behalf of the City: <br />Public Safety Commission minutes from November 24, 2014. <br />Special Order of Business <br />1. Presentation from Bill Hammes of the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety <br />Sergeant Terry Nelson the Coordinator for Traffic Safety in New Brighton introduced Bill Hammes to the <br />City Council. <br />Bill Hammes, Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety, recognized New Brighton Public Safety Department for <br />their efforts in addressing traffic concerns, speeding and impaired drivers. He stated in 2002 the State of <br />Minnesota had 657 fatalities on its streets and highways. He reported this number has been reduced to 395 in <br />2012. In 2014, this number came in around 370, which was the second lowest fatality rate since World War <br />H He then discussed the fatal crashes that occurred in Ramsey County over the last year. He provided <br />comment on the Towards Zero Death initiative and appreciated the continued cooperation of the Public <br />Safety Department. He thanked Sergeant Nelson for attending the Ramsey County Public Safety meetings. <br />Based on the efforts of the entire New Brighton Public Safety Department, he presented the Sergeant Nelson <br />with a brand new LIDAR (speed detection tool). He reported that New Brighton was one of only eight <br />departments that would be receiving this recognition. A round of applause was offered by all in attendance. <br />2. Annual Presentation from the New Brighton Information Technology Services <br />City Manager Lotter explained that IT Coordinator Barte would be presenting this item to the Council. <br />IT Coordinator Barte provided the Council with an overview of the City's Information Technology Services. <br />He stated he has been working for the City for over 20 years. He reported the IT department supports all City <br />meeting coverage,160 computers, 22 iPads, 70 cell/smart phones, 36 servers, along with network <br />communications between six buildings and five sewer lift stations. He then discussed the upgrades and <br />accomplishments from the previous year. He noted the goals for 2015 to be a SAN install, an expansion of <br />the Community Center network, Finance Department upgrade, Class POS system upgrade, all 2003 servers <br />replaced and Public Safety CAD system will be upgraded. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked IT Coordinator Barte for his knowledge and expertise on behalf of the <br />City. <br />Councilmember Strub appreciated the IT Department as well and noted the City was able to provide a high <br />level of customer service because of their efforts. <br />Councilmember Bauman thanked IT Director Barte for his presentation. <br />Mayor Jacobsen thanked IT Director Barte for assisting the City and its staff in the numerous technological <br />transitions that have been made in recent years. He was pleased that the City Council has reduced its use of <br />paper through the use of iPads. <br />Presentation of the Wisconsin Community Media `Best of the Midwest Invitational" 2014 <br />Award of Excellence for the New Brighton Exchange Marketing Video <br />City Manager Lotter explained how community hours with CTV were used to create a marketing video for <br />the New Brighton Exchange. This video was now being recognized by the Wisconsin Community Media <br />for `Best of the Midwest Invitational" 2014 Award of Excellence. <br />Code Enforcement Officer Hatch indicated he worked with Kevin Schmidt of CTV on the marketing video <br />for the New Brighton Exchange two years ago, along with several local brokers.
