"The available balance in the Fleet Replacement Fund for the Chevrolet pickup (Vehicle #072) and
service body in 2015 is $42,126.
The replacement cost, not including auction is $38,922. The fleet replacement fund schedule will separate
the vehicle (replaced on 8 year cycle) and the work body (replaced on 24 year cycle). When replacing the
vehicle, the body will be removed and reused until it is subsequently replaced.
Explanation:
The purpose of this item is to obtain Council authorization to purchase a 2015 GMC 4x4 Crew Cab
pickup with a fiberglass service body. This vehicle will be used for transportation for the Public Works
Street/Sewer Supervisor. This truck is fully loaded with tools, parts and maps.
This vehicle is scheduled for replacement on an 8 -year cycle. The new vehicle will replace Vehicle #072,
a Chevrolet pickup purchased in 2007 which is scheduled to be replaced in 2015.
Vehicle Condition Index: Public Works has implemented a Vehicle Condition Point Index System to
rate each new vehicle purchase. This system was developed by the American Public Works Association
(APWA) to be used by fleet managers all across the country. This system factors in Age, Miles/Hours,
Reliability, Maintenance and Repair Costs, Vehicle Condition, and operating cost per mile. Attached to
this memo is the Vehicle Condition Point Index for vehicle #072 (the truck proposed to be
replaced). With a score of 30 the vehicle is considered medium risk, and qualifies for immediate
replacement consideration.
The recommendation is to enter into an agreement with Ranger GM and Truck Utilities to pay for and
take delivery of a 2015 GMC 4x4 Crew Cab pickup with a fiberglass service body.
Craig Schlichting, P.E.
Director of Community Assets and Development
Attachments:
• Vehicle Condition Index
• Justification Form
