responsibilities of an advisory commission member to the community. <br />Graeme Allen believed advisory commissioners assumed an overseer role, to review how parks were doing, the <br />environment health of the community and the City's facilities. Second, to serve the community by knowing <br />the community and reaching out to individuals you may not know. This would bring a large number of voices <br />to the table. Lastly, to be a champion of the City's parks. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked why he would be a good person to represent the opinions and concerns of the <br />City. <br />Mr. Allen stated he would not claim to the best, but he was a different voice. He was a relatively new resident <br />to New Brighton. He has lived in New Brighton for the past six years. He moved to New Brighton after <br />conducting some research and wants to raise his family in this community. He discussed how the population <br />of New Brighton was be turning over on the coming years and wanted this community to be welcoming to new <br />families. <br />Councilmember Strub requested Mr. Allen describe the contact he has had with the City's parks and recreation <br />programs. <br />Mr. Allen stated he was a gym member and visits those facilities. He did a volunteer cleanup day last year. In <br />addition, he talks to residents about the parks and City's facilities. <br />Councilmember Bauman requested further comment on the organizations or recreational activities that Mr. <br />Allen is involved in. <br />Mr. Allen indicated he has not played softball in several years. <br />Councilmember Bauman questioned how Mr. Allen would approach a park proposal when the neighbors <br />supported varying points of view. <br />Mr. Allen believed that you approach a situation listening to both sides and considering the best needs of the <br />community. In addition, the concerns of the neighborhood would have to be heard. <br />Mayor Jacobsen questioned if Mr. Allen saw any issues the City had with respect to its parks and recreation <br />department. <br />Mr. Allen explained he had no specific agenda but was interested in learning more about dog parks. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen understood that Mr. Danger had served on the Planning Commission and asked why <br />he was willing to continue his service on this board. <br />Steve Danger stated this was an important Commission for the City. He enjoyed serving on this group and did <br />his job well. <br />Councilmember Bauman understood that Mr. Danger has experience serving the City on the Planning <br />Commission and due to time constraints, she asked if Mr. Danger wanted to continue serving the City. <br />Mr. Danger stated he really liked being engaged with staff and the residents. He believed he asked the tough <br />questions and thought he was doing the best he could for the City and the applicants. <br />
