However, the <br />City has to pay an equal amount to hold these off-year elections. The City could save <br />approximately $13,500 to $20,000 every other year by eliminating odd -year elections. <br />Election expenses vary from election year to election year depending on the offices on <br />the ballot and the contentiousness of the issues. <br />*Increases in the 2014 budget were, in part, in anticipation of new precincts but also included a contract with <br />Ramsey County Elections for increased services related to absentee voting. <br />—Increases in the 2015 elections budget are intended to pay for one-time capital costs associated with the <br />establishment of new precincts (signage, voting booths etc.), new election equipment for all precincts as part <br />of a County -wide initiative coordinated by Ramsey County Elections, as well as covering the on-going <br />expenses associated with increased personnel and nonrenewable supplies (pens, tape etc.). <br />H:\Flections\2015.07.07 Worksession discussion - Odd bs even municipal election years version 3.doc <br />
