Public Safety is also able to keep squad cars for 5 years or so; and the new squads are SUV's
which are better for all the equipment they carry and they are very versatile.
Another important piece of the public safety model of service is the strong support we receive
from our volunteer groups. They are a great support for our agency.
Updates
A. Citizen Corps Council
No Report.
Department Reports
A. Human Rights
No Report
B. Allina Health
Mr. Dave Matteson, Allina Health, introduced himself for the new commission members. He is
a manager for Allina Health covering the north metro. He has 4 supervisors and about 130
paramedics and EMT's. Their main office is in Mounds View.
Mr. Matteson reported their 911 crews have been very busy this year; averaging 92 calls/day.
Because of this, Allina Health is going to add 24 hrs coverage per day by November/December.
In order to accomplish this, Allina Health will need to hire 16 more paramedics. They will also
need to purchase more ambulances and equipment.
Mr. Matteson reported back on a previous question comparing response times to previous years.
In 2015 year-to-date, response time averages 7:05. In 2014, response time averaged 7:01. Mr.
Matteson also reported the constructions work has not hindered their response times.
Mr. Matteson spoke about the Community Paramedic program and stated Allina Health will be
adding more hours to this program. The goal is to reduce readmission rates for specific
diagnosis discharges. Early data shows a 90% reduction in readmission rates due to these home
visits.
C. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS)
Commissioner Allen reported 27 pints of blood were collected at the June 23rd blood drive.
The VIPS continue to be busy selling bike helmets at events, doing fingerprinting every
Thursday morning, and planning for Stockyard Days.
D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update
Deputy Director Paetznick reported it has been busy up at Long Lake Regional Park. We work
well with Ramsey County Parks in communicating events and issues.
