Five members of Public Safety will be running the annual Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday, <br />October 4, to include Firefighter Andre Barte who is running his first marathon, Firefighter Chris <br />Rother, Firefighter Nate Macziewski, Fire Captain/Police Officer Brad Krebsbach and Deputy <br />Director Tony Paetznick. With these five runners, this will bring our department up to 135 <br />marathons! <br />Council Liaison <br />A. Council Report <br />Council Member Brian Strub was unable to attend the September Public Safety Commission <br />meeting so Council Member Mary Burg attended in his absence. <br />Council Member Burg noted the following items: <br />There are four work sessions and one council meeting before the budget levy is set. The <br />preliminary budget levy is 3.8% but there is still time for discussion. <br />If you have time, listen to the MN DOT engineer presentation that was given on Aug. 25; <br />it was very interesting. <br />Sheriff Bostrom attended the Council meeting to give his annual update to the council <br />and to talk about Fright Farm. All proceeds are donated to the Ramsey County Sheriff's <br />Foundation to support community programs such as DARE and Canine programs. <br />The Community Partners with Youth fundraiser is this Friday, October 2. <br />The NYFS fundraiser is scheduled for October 22; tickets are $30 in advance. There is <br />food, drink, prizes, and a silent auction; it is a fun event. <br />Election precincts have been changed from 4 to 8 precincts. Information will be sent out <br />to residents on where they will go to vote. The smaller precinct sizes will result in <br />shorter wait times when voting. <br />City Manager Dean Lotter was asked by the Governor to be on a water review board. <br />Commissioner Eichers asked if New Brighton was considering offering driver's license renewals <br />and noted that he received his Clean Up Day brochure after the date. Council Member Burg <br />noted the Finance Director has proposed to bring this service to New Brighton but it is just being <br />talked about right now. Council Member Burg stated she just recently learned about the Clean <br />Up Day brochure error. She had heard there was an error made by the printer and these were <br />mailed out late. <br />Commissioner Donohue asked what prompted the election precinct changes. Council Member <br />Burg stated the Secretary of State set new standards for next election year so New Brighton <br />enacted these changes this year in preparation for next year's election. <br />Old Business <br />Commissioner Anderson asked how many people were cited during the crosswalk enforcement <br />that was done back in July. Director Jacobson stated he will check on this. <br />New Rucinecs <br />Commissioner Hollimon reported the Community Partners with Youth (CPY) fundraiser is <br />scheduled for Friday at the New Brighton Community Center with a beach party theme. The <br />cost is $50 per person or $90 per couple, dinner is being catered from Acapulco, and there will <br />be a live auction and a silent auction. The goal of CPY is to reduce juvenile crime by increasing <br />
