January 26, 2016 <br />Minneapolis softens their water and a large portion goes through the microfiltration plant. He <br />explained the only difference between their water and New Brighton's would be the <br />hardness/softness of the water. He discussed the high quality of the City of Minneapolis' water. <br />Mayor Johnson asked when the interconnection to Minneapolis would be complete. Mr. Keel <br />stated he would be preparing a bid package and understood the City wanted to have this <br />pipeline connected as soon as possible. He anticipated the project would be awarded this <br />spring and anticipated the pipe work would be in place this summer or early fall. <br />Councilmember Burg thanked staff and Mr. Keel for his efforts on behalf of the City. She <br />appreciated how timely everyone was working on this issue. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to Authorize the Mayor <br />and City Manager to enter into Work Order 2 (Barr Engineering Work Order No. <br />23621176-02) for the Design, Procurement, and Construction Phase Services to integrate <br />the selected AOP technology into the City's existing water treatment processes at WTP1, <br />along with all necessary site and treatment plant modifications. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to Authorize Barr to <br />proceed with professional services under Work Order 2 pertaining to Contract Package <br />Numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 including any work that has been completed prior to signature of <br />Work Order 2. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to Authorize Barr's <br />services pertaining to Contract Packages 5 and 6 is being deferred pending confirmation <br />of Army intent to proceed with that optional portion of the Project. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Commissimi Liaison Reports, Announcements rind Ut)dates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported the lower level of City Hall was being reconstructed. It was the <br />goal of the City to have the new organizations moved into this space by June. He stated there <br />was a City Manager's meeting with the Cable Commission and CenturyLink regarding their <br />build out plan. He indicated there were several homes in New Brighton that were already <br />receiving CenturyLink services. He explained in early February Mayor's and City Managers <br />would be meeting with school district representatives. He reported former City Attorney <br />Charlie LeFevere has had a change in his health status and he sent his thoughts to the family. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen requested an update on Cowboy Jack's. City Manager Lotter <br />indicated he would check in with the Planning Staff and provide the Council with an update. <br />He then provided the Council with an update on Northeast Bank. <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported PREC would not be meeting in January. She reviewed the <br />recent awards the New Brighton Community Center received. She encouraged families to look <br />into the great programming at the Community Center and noted there would be an adventure <br />day camp at the Eagle's Nest on President's Day. She explained the renovations to Eagle's <br />Nest would not occur until September. She noted the American Heart Association was <br />conducting a Change of Heart Program to educate the public on heart disease.
