Ms. Wheeler reviewed the City's water tower repainting plan and noted these would be rebranded within the
City's proposed schedule and there would be no additional cost. She discussed on her cost to the City for the
website redesign. She explained that because she was a sole proprietor she would be coming in at a lower cost
than other vendors. She indicated she would be charging the City $4,000 for rebranding, $4,000 for
copywriting on the website, and $11,400 for the development of the website.
Councilmember Strub asked if the City had previously discussed the rebranding of the City.
Councilmember Bauman stated this was previously discussed when the City replaced its street signs.
Councilmember Strub agreed the City's website and logo were both antiquated. He supported the City looking
into a new website and logo.
Councilmember Bauman understood the City needed to update its website. She just wanted to be able to
review several options before moving forward given the investment that would be made.
Mayor Johnson agreed and stated it was her hope that the City would be able to find a new logo that would
stand the test of time. She believed the current logo was old looking. She was in favor of the rebranding the
City. She explained that through her work experience, Ms. Wheeler was providing the City with a very
competitive rate for a new website.
Councilmember Jacobsen asked how Ms. Wheeler would go about designing a new logo for the City. Ms.
Wheeler discussed the process she would follow to assist the City Council with creating a new logo. She
explained this would be a very interactive process.
Councilmember Burg discussed the branding process that was followed for The New Brighton Exchange.
Mayor Johnson was in favor of encouraging the community to get involved in the logo process by promoting it
through social media.
Councilmember Bauman believed the City had a great deal of professionals that could assist with this process.
It was her opinion that Ms. Wheeler did not have enough experience. In addition, she was not that impressed
by the websites that Ms. Wheeler had designed. She suggested the Council see if the public even wanted to see
the City's logo rebranded.
Councilmember Burg was in favor of making the new website simple and more streamlined.
Councilmember Bauman clarified she supported moving forward with updates to the City's website, but
wanted to review other vendors and their vision for the website and logo.
Councilmember Jacobsen was in agreement with this suggestion.
Mayor Johnson stated it would be nice to have the rebranding completed in time for the Town Hall meeting
and to have the new website built around this new logo.
Councilmember Strub agreed it would be valuable to review other vendors' perspectives and vision for the
City. He understood Ms. Wheeler was quite young and lacked a great deal of experience. However, he did
appreciate the fact that Ms. Wheeler knew this community and understood the website would have to reach a
wide variety of users.
