Councilmember Burg indicated she spoke with her son (who attended school with Ms. Wheeler) and learned
that she was the Valedictorian of her class.
Mayor Johnson summarized the discussion of the Council and noted the Council was in favor of seeing
addition bids from vendors for a new City website and logo. In addition, the Council was interested in seeing
if the public supported rebranding of the City logo. She questioned how the Council should proceed at this
time. Lotter indicated there were two areas of concern. The first was the City's website and the second was
the City logo. He discussed the amount Twin Cities Gateway spent on their new website and branding. He did
not believe the City would find a lower price for a website vendor. Lotter believed that Ms. Wheeler was
perfect for this work because she was young, accomplished and highly intelligent. He believed the City would
spend more than five times Ms. Wheeler was requesting if another vendor were pursued.
Mayor Johnson was comfortable with hiring Ms. Wheeler for the website. She requested staff seek additional
branding options.
Councilmember Jacobsen supported the Council proceeding in this direction.
Mayor Johnson asked if the Council was comfortable with the rebranding expense of $22,000.
Councilmember Burg recommended that the rebranding of the City be conducted over time and not all at once.
Councilmember Bauman and Councilmember Jacobsen agreed with this recommendation.
Worksession Item Discussion
Mayor Johnson requested the Council discuss upcoming worksession agenda items. She asked if the Council
wanted to interview commission members in March or inquired if this should be pushed back to April.
Lotter hoped the interviews could be spread over several meetings in March because the interviews last year
were quite rushed. He then reviewed the upcoming agenda items scheduled to be addressed in February.
Councilmember Burg suggested a special worksession meeting be held for the interviews or that the interviews
be more spaced out over the months of February and March.
Lotter thanked the Council for their input.
Worksession adjourned at 6:13 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Q
Terri Haarstad
City Clerk
