He
noted the Planning Commission has four vacancies and the City received five applications. He indicated the
EDC has four vacancies and the City received one applicant. He explained Mr. Carter was willing to serve
wherever the Council placed him. He commented PREC has three vacancies at this time and the City had three
interested applicants. The Public Safety Advisory Committee had two vacancies and staff received two
applications. Lastly, the Civil Service Commission had one vacancy. He stated now may be the time to
disband the Civil Service Commission and use these public servants in another manner.
Councilmember Jacobsen did not believe it was necessary to interview sitting Commission members again if
they were interested in being reappointed to a Commission or Committee.
Councilmember Bauman agreed with this recommendation.
Councilmember Strub also wanted to streamline the reapplication process, so long as new Councilmembers
were comfortable with this process.
Mayor Johnson did not believe Commission members had to be re -interviewed by the entire City Council, but
thought it would benefit new Councilmembers to introduce themselves to these members of the community.
With that being said, she recommended the Council focus on the Planning Commission application members
that were not returning members.
City Manager Lotter noted Chair Howard would not be returning to the Planning Commission. In a
conversation he had with Chair Howard, he expressed his recommendation that Erin Nichols-Matkaiti serve as
the Planning Commission's next Chair. He recommended that the Planning Commission make a
recommendation to the City Council for this position.
