She discussed the <br />child protection work she has conducted as a social worker, stating this gave her a unique perspective on law <br />enforcement. <br />Councilmember Bauman requested Ms. Conway briefly describe any training, education, or relevant <br />experience you have that would benefit the City of New Brighton's Public Safety Department. <br />Ms. Conway commented the Minneapolis Police Commission has recently started a citizen academy. She <br />discussed the benefits this program was having on the community. <br />Mayor Johnson asked what Ms. Conway liked about New Brighton and what motivated her to serve. <br />Ms. Conway explained she was an Irondale graduate and she loved the community. She grew up in Mounds <br />View and a lot of her friends and family remained in the area. She enjoyed the close-knit feel of her <br />neighborhood stating they had potluck dinners during the summer months. She was very invested in the <br />community and noted her children attend Valentine Hills Elementary School. <br />Jacobson thanked Ms. Conway for her time and believed she would bring a great deal of life experience to the <br />Public Safety Advisory Commission. <br />Mayor Johnson thanked Ms. Conway for her time and noted she would be in touch. <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Nick Quade to the meeting and thanked him for being willing to serve the City as a <br />commissioner. <br />Councilmember Bauman asked what are two or three of the most important responsibilities an advisory <br />commission member has to his or her community. <br />Nick Quade believed commission members should have the best interests of the City in mind. In addition, <br />commission members should have a fiscal responsibility to the City while also preserving the City's history. <br />Councilmember Strub asked why Mr. Quade would be a good person to represent the opinions and concerns of <br />the City New Brighton. <br />Mr. Quade indicated he liked to hear all opinions on issues. He believed he was a good judge of opinions. He <br />explained he had also served in the public realm with Ramsey County on the Soil and Water board. He stated <br />he loved this City and intended to remain in the community for the rest of his life. <br />Councilmember Burg asked Mr. Quade to describe any contact you have had with the City's Park and <br />Recreation programs. <br />Mr. Quade commented he grew up in the community and some of his fondest memories involved the City of <br />New Brighton's parks. He indicated he caught his first northern on Long Lake with his dad. He spent <br />countless afternoons at the beach and biking throughout the City. He discussed how his life had come full <br />circle and he was now chasing his own three year old. He loved the Eagle's Nest and noted he had a <br />membership at the Brightwood Hills Golf Course. He believed the City was blessed to have such a vast parks <br />and recreation program. <br />Mayor Johnson asked what issues Mr. Quade saw that were facing the City's parks. <br />
