Of <br />IWNEW <br />BRKXHON <br />the city that works for you <br />Council Worksession <br />March 8, 2016 <br />5:00 pm <br />Present: Mayor Valerie Johnson <br />Councilmember Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Mary Burg <br />Absent: Councilmember Gina Bauman <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Jason Hicks, Sandy Brueur, Brenda Davitt <br />Guests in Attendance: <br />NBCC HVAC Unit Discussion <br />Lotter discussed the improvements needed at the Community Center with regard to the HVAC unit. <br />Jason Hicks provided the City Council with a presentation on the HVAC needs at the Community Center. He <br />reported the Community Center was built in 1994. The requirements for the new system were discussed and <br />noted staff has been communicating with representatives from Trane. <br />Councilmember Strub asked if there were any incentives from the State to install solar panels. TRANE REP <br />explained the Made in Minnesota solar panels allowed for the highest rebate assistance and funding per KW. <br />He noted all candidates seeking a Made in Minnesota solar panel system were put into a lottery for <br />consideration. He reported the odds were currently one in eight of being selected. He understood the City was <br />interested in installing solar panels on the Community Center. <br />Councilmember Strub questioned when the lottery was held. TRANE REP indicated the City would be <br />hearing in the next few weeks if New Brighton would be receiving an award. <br />Jason Hicks stated another energy efficient option the Council could pursue would be LED lighting at the <br />Community Center. He explained the rooftop units were identified in the City's fleet/non fleet replacement <br />plan, along with the pneumatic controls. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if the rooftop units could be consolidated. Jason Hicks stated staff was <br />recommending the units not be combined as this would mean the Community Center would need all new <br />ductwork. <br />Councilmember Burg requested further information on the pneumatic controls. TRANE REP discussed the <br />engineering verification control systems that now ran HVAC units. He commented on the unique amenities <br />within the NBCC stating an energy block load would be conducted to ensure the proper ventilation and units <br />were purchased for the Community Center. He believed some rezoning may occur with the ADA boxes. <br />
