Councilmember Jacobsen asked if the solar panels could be added at a later date. TRANE REP commented <br />this was the case. <br />Councilmember Burg was proud of the fact that the City could fund its projects as it went and did not need to <br />borrow. <br />Mayor Johnson was pleased by the fact the City would see great energy savings through the proposed HVAC <br />project. She was encouraged that staff was providing a recommendation to Council that was energy efficient <br />and would reduce the City's carbon footprint. She wanted to see staff add cleaning units in the Eagle's Nest <br />and the gym spaces. <br />Mayor Johnson asked if the City would have any savings in its 2016 fleet/non-fleet plan that could be allotted <br />to this project. Lotter stated he could reevaluate the plan and provide the Council an update. TRANE REP <br />indicated the City would be receiving rebates for the HVAC units. <br />Mayor Johnson supported the project as recommended by staff adding purification units to the Eagle's Nest <br />and gym areas. <br />Councilmember Strub understood the existing units were at the end of their lifespan. He wanted to see the City <br />proceed with the HVAC units as recommended and was in favor of directing staff to investigate the solar units <br />further. He also supported the building envelope being upgrades. <br />Councilmember Burg requested further information about solar tubes. TRANE REP discussed the payback <br />and efficiencies for solar tubes. He believed smaller applications could be used in the workout area but <br />cautioned the Council from pursuing this further until the benefits of these could be investigated. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen feared that the use of solar tubes could void the City's warranty on the new roof. <br />Councilmember Burg requested staff provide the Council with a costibenefit analysis for the use of solar tubes <br />in the NBCC. <br />Mayor Johnson cautioned the Council from putting solar tubes in the gymnasium area. <br />Councilmember Strub understood the Council would be receiving additional information on the solar panels. <br />He questioned how the solar partnership would work. TRANE REP discussed the benefits of a solar <br />partnership and reported this would bring the City additional incentives and rebates. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if the City could absorb the expense of additional options. Davitt reported she <br />ran the expense at $1.2 million. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen inquired how long the new HVAC units would be warrantied. TRANE REP <br />reported the units would come with a five-year warranty. <br />Councilmember Burg was pleased to see the City moving forward with the proposed improvements for the <br />NBCC. <br />Further discussion ensued regarding Trane's experience in installing HVAC units in large buildings throughout <br />the metro area. <br />
