April 26, 2016 Page 12 of 13 <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported that Planning Commission met on April 19th where the <br />group discussed the Shoreland Ordinance and the Bona request. He indicated Metro Cities <br />held their annual meeting last Thursday. He was able to attend this event with City Manager <br />Lotter and Councilmember Burg and appreciated the presentation provided by Dr. David <br />Schultz. He noted he attended the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Sunday, April 22nd. He <br />thanked all of the City's volunteers and congratulated the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf on being <br />awarded the Volunteer Organization of the Year. He commented on the well -attended ribbon <br />cutting ceremony that occurred on Monday morning for Northeast State Bank. He welcomed <br />Northeast State Bank to the community. <br />Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Strub reported the Public Safety Committee met on Monday, April 25th where <br />two new commissioners were in attendance, Sara Conway and George Howard. He indicated <br />National Police Week would be observed May 15th through May 21St. He noted a proclamation <br />for this event will be forwarded to the City to be considered at a future meeting. He explained <br />Officer McNeely was awarded the 2016 Advisory of the Year Award from the Minnesota <br />Police Explorers Association. He noted on Saturday, April 28th the New Brighton Historical <br />Society was having their Annual Meeting at 1:00 p.m. at the Community Center. He stated the <br />Fire Division Banquet would be held on Saturday as well. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported she would have nothing to report from here on in. She <br />explained the Cable Commission would need a liaison that will continue to understand the <br />needs of the City with Comcast. She indicated she could attend this meeting as a tax payer. <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported she attended the Met Council annual meeting last Thursday <br />with Councilmember Jacobsen and City Manager Lotter. She appreciated the election <br />presentation provided by Dr. Schultz. She also attended the awesome Volunteer Appreciation <br />event and congratulated the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf. She indicated Arbor Day would be <br />observed in the City of New Brighton on Friday, April 291h at Hanson Park where trees will be <br />planted. She thanked all who rounded up their water bills in order to contribute to scholarships <br />within the Parks Department. She noted PREC would not be meeting in May. It was noted the <br />group would be holding two meetings in June. The group would be meeting again on June 1st <br />and June 81h. She encouraged the public to participate in the City's Open House on Saturday, <br />May 7th <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter commented on the items that would be discussed at the City's Open <br />House on Saturday, May 7th. He also encouraged the public to be a part of this event. He <br />requested the Council RSVP to him if interested in attending the Fire Division Banquet. He <br />anticipated all new Police Officer swearing ins will be held during upcoming Council <br />meetings. <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson reported she attended the North Metro Mayor's meeting at the new Senate <br />building. She believed this building would serve the public well. She indicated the Rotary <br />Club would be presenting all 4th Graders with a tree.
