IhAffON <br />the city that works for you <br />Council Worksession <br />April 5, 2016 <br />5:00 pm <br />Present: Mayor Valerie Johnson <br />Councilmember Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Gina Bauman (arrived at 5:35 p.m.) <br />Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Mary Burg <br />Absent: <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Terri Haarstad <br />Guests in Attendance: <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked for comment on the therapy issue. Mayor Johnson stated she has reached out <br />to this organization and would be meeting with them this Saturday. She did not anticipate any problems would <br />arise at the meeting. <br />Council Commission Relations <br />Lotter stated Commission Relations was going to be discussed to allow the Council to address the importance <br />of this issue. He understood there was a growing need for a standardized orientation for new Commissioners. <br />He reported in April all Commissioners (except EDC) will attend an orientation, which would provide these <br />individuals with information on their roles and responsibilities, while also addressing open meeting laws. He <br />noted all Commissions would be moving to electronic packets, which would create greater efficiencies for the <br />City while also standardizing this system. He indicated Terri and Troy or Kyle would also be attending an <br />upcoming committee meeting to go over this information with the Commission members. <br />Haarstad indicated the commission members are excited about the upcoming training. She reviewed the <br />Commissioner Handbook with the Council, and noted the Technology portion of the employee handbook <br />would also be provided to Commission members as this would have to be followed for the iPad's. She then <br />ran through the Power Point presentation that she would be giving to the commission members in further <br />detail. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen believed the transition to electronic packets was fantastic. <br />Councilmember Burg was pleased that past packet information would be available online to assist members <br />with finding additional information on previous cases. <br />Lotter discussed the cost and time saving that would be seen by staff through the new system. <br />Mayor Johnson also appreciated the level of transparency that would be provided by the City for each of its <br />committees and commissions. <br />
