Discussion: Filling Vacancies on Commissions and Northwest Suburbs Cable Commission
Mayor Johnson requested the Council discuss filling Councilmember Bauman's commission liaison positions.
Councilmember Jacobsen questioned what Mayor Johnson's plan was going forward.
Mayor Johnson did not envision this being a forever thing, but she wanted to see an improvement in the way
Councilmember Bauman addressed people in public. She discussed Councilmember Bauman's previous self-
report and was hoping to receive an apology.
Councilmember Burg was uncomfortable discussing this matter without Councilmember Bauman in
attendance.
Councilmember Strub agreed but noted he had strong thoughts on the matter. He recommended the Council
not discuss this matter until after the Council approves the censure.
Mayor Johnson understood this concern. She stated she would like to see the censure Resolution approved this
evening by the Council and noted she would be willing to wait to discuss the Council liaison positions at a
future meeting.
Lotter discussed the motions and actions that were taken by the City Council at their previous meeting. He
indicated the Council was being asked to approve Resolutions based on the Council's previous direction. He
believed it was healthy for the Council to discuss their direction going forward. He explained the Council
could modify the Council appointments at any point in time. He stated it would be important for the City to
have a New Brighton representative at the upcoming Cable Commission meetings.
Mayor Johnson suggested the Council consider appointing alternates to fill in for these meetings and not that
new liaisons be appointed.
Councilmember Burg believed she was the alternate for the Cable Commission. Lotter stated this was the
case.
Mayor Johnson reported she would be happy to fill in as the EDC liaison.
Councilmember Jacobsen hoped that Councilmember Bauman would be reinstated to her positions in the near
future to allow for the full contingent of the Council to serve and represent the public.
Mayor Johnson stated this was her hope as well. She went on record stating the last Council meeting could
have been handled much better by herself, but the power of the gavel did not make a difference. She believed
that if the power of the gavel had been honored, the meeting would have went much differently.
Councilmember Burg stated she put the June 2nd Cable Commission meeting on her calendar and noted she
would be in attendance. She indicated she would be in touch with the Cable Commission Vice Chair to make
him aware that she would be attending the meeting.
Mayor Johnson asked if the Council was comfortable moving forward.
Councilmember Strub wanted to see the Council move beyond this and to see Councilmember Bauman
reinstated.
