He was pleased to report the City received an unqualified opinion for the 2015 audit, which was the
highest opinion offered. He discussed the changes that have been made in the audit world and commented on
his responsibilities as the City’s auditor. The City’s internal controls, fund balances and outstanding debt
levels were reviewed. He encouraged the City to remain diligent on its PERA contributions. He thanked City
staff for being well prepared for the audit and commended the City on their fine financial standing.

Discussion ensued regarding the Fire Relief and PERA Fund Balances.

Councilmember Bauman commented on a retirement fund alternative to PERA.

Councilmember Strub questioned if a PERA representative could provide the Council with update on the
health of the City’s fund. Lotter believed staff could arrange for this type of presentation with PERA.

Councilmember Strub believed it would benefit the Council to have a discussion on retirement fund
alternatives.

Davitt provided the Council with a memo from staff and a brief presentation on the golf course, and fleet/non-
fleet funds.

Councilmember Burg thanked staff for the thorough report.

Discuss Council Engagement Opportunity
Lotter asked if the Council wanted to discuss potential opportunities for community engagement. He
understood the Council was interested in holding two neighborhood meetings in 2017 along with an Open
House. He believed that the Council was also interested in holding a neighborhood meeting in Vermont Park
in August. The last item would be for the Council to hold an offsite meeting at Irondale High School.
