July 12, 2016 Page 6 of 7 <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported the Mayor, himself and members of the DX response team <br />would be touring the Minneapolis Water Plant tomorrow. He stated staff would begin working <br />on the 2017 budget on July 18th. He explained he would be contacting each of the <br />Councilmembers to discuss the potential of holding an offsite meeting to discuss the <br />preliminary budget. He noted arrangements are being made for the Thursday, July 21st BBQ at <br />Vermont Park. He provided further comment on the MOSAC Committee. He commented on <br />Friday, July 22nd he would be visited by the Mayor and several staff members of Merrimac, <br />Wisconsin to discuss contaminated ground water and the City’s experience with the Army. <br /> <br />Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Strub reported the Public Safety Commission would meet next on Monday, <br />July 25th. He explained National Night Out would be held on Tuesday, August 2nd. He <br />encouraged residents to register their block parties with the City. He noted the Police Division <br />has had several reports of theft in garages. He encouraged homeowners to close and secure <br />their garage doors. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported he attended Public Safety Director Jacobson’s retirement <br />party last Thursday. He was amazed by the number of people in attendance. He believed this <br />was a great reflection of Mr. Jacobson’s character. He stated the Planning Commission would <br />meet next on Tuesday, July 19th at 7:00 p.m. He encouraged the public to get out and <br />participate in Stockyard Days. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported she also attended Public Safety Director Jacobson’s retirement <br />and believed this was a great event. She discussed Super Hero Day which was held at the <br />Eagle’s Nest noting 170 children participated. She encouraged residents to visit the Old <br />Highway 8 Dairy Queen in New Brighton on Tuesday, July 19th where 10% of the proceeds <br />would be donated to the Parks and Recreation Department for scholarships. She noted that <br />$369 had already been donated this summer. She stated PREC would be meeting next on <br />Wednesday, August 3rd. She thanked all who worked to bring a farmer’s market to New <br />Brighton and invited the public to attend this special community event every Wednesday <br />through October from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the United Theological Seminary. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson reported the EDC met on Wednesday, July 6th where the group discussed New <br />Brighton’s sense of place.
