<br /> <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Authorization for the Mayor and City Manager to enter into a seven <br />year contract extension with Republic Services for curbside collection of recyclable materials. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets & <br />Development <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: <br /> <br /> <br />No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______ <br /> <br />Recommendation: Authorize the Mayor and City Manager to enter into a seven year contract <br />extension with Republic Services. <br /> <br />Legislative History: June 28, 2016: The City Council discussed Republic Services offer for a <br />five or seven year extension to the current recycling contract. Council directed staff to negotiate <br />a seven year extension for consideration. <br /> <br />April 15, 2013: The Mayor and City Manager entered into three year extension contract, for <br />years 2014, 2015, and 2016, with Allied Waste Services of North America LLC (now known as <br />Republic Services) for recycling services. <br /> <br />October 12, 2010: The Mayor and City Manager were authorized to enter into a three year <br />contract, for years 2011, 2012, and 2013 with Allied Waste Services of North America LLC <br />(now known as Republic Services) for single sort recycling services. Prior to this, the City was <br />under contract with Waste Management for a dual sort recycling service. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: The current rate is $2.78 per household per month. Under the proposed <br />seven year contract, rates will consist of the following: <br /> <br />2017 $2.78 (no increase) <br />2018 $2.86 ($0.96 yearly increase per household) <br />2019 $2.95 ($1.08 yearly increase per household) <br />2020 $3.04 ($1.08 yearly increase per household) <br />2021 $3.13 ($1.08 yearly increase per household) <br />2022 $3.22 ($1.08 yearly increase per household) <br />2023 $3.31 ($1.08 yearly increase per household) <br /> <br />AGENDA SECTION: Consent <br />REPORT DATE: 8/3/2016 <br />MEETING DATE: 8/8/2016
