<br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />STRATEGIC PLAN 2017 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Service Description: Redevelopment, Building Inspections and Permit, <br />Planning and Zoning, Housing, Code Compliance and Recycling, GIS <br /> <br />The Community Assets and Development <br />Department (DCAD) oversees the physical development <br />of the community and enforces ordinances in the areas of <br />building construction, code enforcement, housing and <br />land-use. The department works with elected officials, <br />advisory commissions, citizens, and businesses to <br />develop plans designed to maintain and improve the <br />community and ensure a healthy residential and business <br />environment. <br /> <br />DCAD leads the City’s redevelopment and economic development efforts. It strives to <br />maintain and improve the City’s economic vitality and ensure New Brighton is a preferred place <br />to live, work, play and do business. <br /> <br /> The City has a Zoning Code and a Comprehensive Plan to ensure safe and orderly <br />development and compatible land uses. These documents guide where and what type of building <br />occurs. The City enforces the International Building Code (IBC) through the issuance of building <br />permits and inspection of buildings under construction. The goal of the IBC is to ensure <br />buildings are constructed safely. <br /> <br /> DCAD manages the City’s curbside recycling program and the annual household Clean- <br />up Day events. The programs are designed to encourage residents to recycle and keep their <br />properties clean and neat. <br /> <br /> In addition, the department also provides support through its Geographic Information <br />Systems (GIS) services to other departments.
