<br /> <br />Commissioner Potter believed New Brighton did not have a true center but had a great community of <br />people. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carter stated after living in the community for 17 years, he thought the Community <br />Center was working well to create a sense of place for the City. It was his opinion that a sense of place <br />could be created in New Brighton incrementally, over time. <br /> <br />Commissioner Garcia-Perez recommended the City have a calendar of events on the City’s website. <br />Gundlach noted that all City meetings were posted on the website, but understood the EDC was <br />interested in having more communication with the public. <br /> <br />Further discussion ensued regarding how the City can support local community events and the seminary <br />sponsored farmer’s market. <br /> <br />Commissioner Allen believed that electronic and social media would be the best way to reach younger <br />people in the community. Gundlach agreed noting the City understood the need for a stronger web <br />presence. She encouraged the EDC members to review the City’s website to see the information and <br />services available online that were not available a year ago. <br /> <br />Commissioner Garcia-Perez believed a farmer’s market would be a great way for the community to <br />create a sense of place. <br /> <br />Commissioner Benke commented that grocery stores and restaurants were heavily dependent upon the <br />demographics of the community. <br /> <br />Commissioner Garcia-Perez suggested the City consider hosting a bike race with the event routed <br />through the community. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carter agreed this would benefit the local businesses to have events running through the <br />City and not just at Long Lake Regional Park. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson understood the major events in the City were held at the park, but she believed the local <br />businesses could offer outdoor events that align with Stockyard Days. <br /> <br />Commissioner Murlowski indicated the City had to work with what it had, given the fact it had no <br />center. However, the City could encourage Adagio’s, Barley John’s and Cowboy Jack’s to hold weekly <br />events throughout the summer. He recommended the City work to involve the Public Safety <br />Department into the local activities. <br /> <br />Commissioner Garcia-Perez discussed the importance of capturing those that live within the community <br />and those that visit the City of New Brighton. <br /> <br />Commissioner Carter encouraged this group and the City to be as flexibility as possible. Gundlach <br />believed the City was doing a lot of great things for the business community in order to meet their needs. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson questioned how the City could work to keep alumni involved in the community. She <br />thought this would assist in creating a sense of place. She supported the idea of concerts in the park and <br />commented a community shelter may assist with these events. <br />
