15
During the first week of May, Sergeant Emerson and Office Supervisor completed the
three week Leadership of Public Safety Organizations (LPO) training hosted by the
Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The LPO training is based upon a
curriculum designed at the United States Military Academy at West Point and was
adapted for Public Safety use by the Los Angeles Police Department. At the culmination
of the training participants must complete a class presentation to address a local issue and
apply the concepts learned throughout the course.

On Monday, May 16th the Fire Division held a multi-company drill at Applewood Point
on Old Highway 8 NW. The drill simulated a car fire in their underground garage which
required the building to evacuate. Due to the very large size of the building the initial
crews were forced to deploy 400 feet of fire attack hose of a standpipe in the building to
extinguish the simulated fire. As a result of the training exercise Fire Marshal Lamotte is
working with the Applewood Point Board of Directors to install additional standpipes in
the building.
