B. Chair Updates <br />Chair Kunesh-Podein commented that the New Brighton Farmers Market <br />continues to grow. Hope to have a winter market indoors. Much praise from <br />the New Brighton community and surrounding communities. <br />C. Commission Reports on Parks <br />Driftwood: Parker. There is activity going on at the Water Treatment Plant. <br />The park looks good. It is very green. There may be more planting after work <br />is done at Treatment Plant. <br />Freedom: Brunell. No report. <br />Hansen: Fields. There is a lot of water going through the stream. Park looks <br />good. <br />Hidden Oaks: Quade. There are lots of kids playing in the park. Having the <br />shelter down makes it easier to see playground and other things in the park. <br />Innsbruck: Kunesh-Podein. It is a very lovely park. Also, it is very, very green. <br />Play area very well kept. It is in good shape. <br />Meadow Wood: Eischen. Some of the lights are flickering on the south side. <br />Silver Oaks/Totem Pole: Justin. No report. <br />Sunny Square/Vermont: McEathron. Vermont: Work has been done, new <br />nets for goals, lines painted, picnic tables redone. It looks very nice. Sunny <br />Square: some graffiti on the utility box by ball field. Sunny Square could use <br />new wood on benches and tables. <br />Veterans: Stenglein — No report. <br />D. Department Happenings / upcoming events <br />• 27 teams participating in the fall softball leagues. 324 players are <br />visiting New Brighton each week. <br />• Trimming has been completed in alleys. <br />• Buckthorn removed at Hidden Oaks, over 2 acres of land. <br />• A total of 18 red oaks with oak wilt and 26 elms with Dutch elm disease <br />were found. <br />• 65% of Americans do not know how to swim. New Brighton Parks and <br />Recreation offers 35 different aquatics courses in the month of <br />September. <br />• 48 participants learned to swim in the summer final session. <br />• 25 participants enjoyed youth sports camps. <br />• 58 children attended the last summer class of gymnastics. <br />• 42 Ed -Venture children played foot golf at Hansen Park. <br />• 39 Ed -Venture children visited Bunker Hills for a hay ride and pony <br />ride. <br />• 42 children attended Ed -Venture trip to Zero Gravity Trampoline Park <br />in Mounds View. <br />• 11 children attended beginning tennis lessons at Hansen Park. <br />• Ed -Venture children to an urban hike to get ice cream treats and visit <br />the Raptor Center. <br />• 131 Jr Golfers at Brightwood Hills in the Mon/Thurs program. 28 <br />participated in the Jr Scramble. The annual tournament hosted 54 <br />juniors. <br />• RFQ's went out to 7 and 3 were returned for Recreation Software. <br />
