c. Commission Reports on Parks <br />Driftwood: Parker. Has not been up there since last report. <br />Freedom: Brunell. The ice is coming late. Park looked good. <br />Chris Wolla, Parks Superintendent, explained to the Commissioners the process <br />for ice making. He is hoping to have all rinks open by Saturday. <br />Hansen: Fields. Everything looks good. <br />Hidden Oaks: Frischman. The boards at Freedom look fabulous. Chris Wolla <br />stated there will also be a fence. Snow and ice on the sidewalk at the Hidden <br />Oaks. <br />Innsbruck: Kunesh-Podein. It is a beautiful Park, especially when snowy. It <br />looks in good form. <br />Meadow Wood: Eischen. The park looks very good. <br />Silver Oaks/Totem Pole: Justin. Icy sidewalks at Totem Pole. Have not been to <br />Silver Oaks since last snow. Chris Wolla stated that in October residents by <br />Silver Oaks asked for a light on the hill because the kids sled there. A new light <br />has been installed. <br />Sunny Square/Vermont: McEathron. Vermont not used much. Minimal tracks in <br />snow. There is a tricycle and broken bike. Sunny Square looks good. <br />Veterans: Stenglein. Nothing to report. <br />d. Department Happenings / upcoming events <br />Upcoming Events <br />• Applications for Commissions taken through Feb 5. <br />• Three on the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission have <br />terms that will expire. Letters going out by the end of the week. <br />• This Saturday is the 11th Annual Health and Fitness Fair at the New <br />Brighton Community Center. <br />Department Happenings <br />• 15 Rounds of golf were played in December. Total 22,136 rounds for the <br />year. <br />• We were the recipient of a recycling grant from Ramsey County of over <br />$1,950. We have 27 new recycling containers. We provided about $1,700. <br />• Tree trimming done during the Dec., Jan, Feb. <br />• Two recital/parent shows; one for gymnastics about 100 parents and <br />participants at Irondale. At Highview was the Holiday Dance show and <br />there were 66 dancers and 175 spectators. <br />• Staff researching software. Pat Tuma is spearheading that. <br />• Sledding hill at Silver Oaks is getting lots of use. <br />VII.
