2 <br /> <br /> Pivot thinking, and actions away from waste <br /> Focus on <br />o Opportunity <br />o Local benefits <br />o Economic Prosperity <br /> Focus on efficiency: measure dollars and carbon <br /> Continually evaluate what we do and how <br /> Waste is a resource <br />There was lengthy discussion from the Commission on the recycling issue. <br /> <br />City of St. Paul is in the process of moving in the direction of organic waste <br />separation. <br /> <br />City of St. Anthony has already completed the process and it was very quick. <br /> <br />Seven of the 16 communities in Ramsey County have recycling. <br /> <br />Get caught recycling – some cities are paying their residents to recycle. <br /> <br />Jean Buckley, of Ramsey County stated they are open to putting an organic <br />dumpster in a place easily accessible (other than the busy Arden Hills site). But it <br />has to be in an area that would not get other dumping besides the organic. <br /> <br />Chair Kunesh-Podein felt educating residents and getting information out to them <br />would be an important first step. <br /> <br />Commissioner Eischen felt it would be good to hear from Council as to what it <br />would entail to put together an ordinance for the City of N ew Brighton. <br /> <br />VII. Announcements <br />A. Council Report – Council Member Burg <br />Lots of discussion has taken place regarding recycling. Council Member Burg <br />agrees that education is important. <br /> Should have received the annual water report. <br /> Since New Brighton switched to Minneapolis water, don’t shut your <br />water softener completely off – it could rust out. <br /> Shoreland ordinance was reviewed by Council after many visits. <br /> Temporary (tiny) housing. A company can come in and drop down a <br />trailer on your property for a family member with a special need to live <br />in while you care for them. This will be State mandated September 1, <br />2016. Cities have the ability to opt-out of this State law and create their <br />own regulations regarding this issue. The City Council decided to opt- <br />out. <br /> Open to business. Go to them for help in starting a business. <br /> The Fall Recreation and City Hall Brochure is out to residents. <br /> Ribbon cutting ceremony for the new lower level City Hall space which <br />houses the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and the Up per <br />Midwest Community Policing Institute. Their rental money has paid for <br />the renovation of the restrooms upstairs and downstairs at City Hall.
