There <br />were lots of activities with crafts, games and costumes. Mad Science <br />was sponsored by the library. <br /> Ed-Ventures children visited French Regional Park and climbed the <br />cargo nets, biked from Freedom to Long Lake Park for a picnic. Went <br />to the St. Louis Park Aquatic Center. <br /> The Rice Creek Boat Club helps with the Kayak and Canoe Paddling <br />Camps <br /> Over 100 participants in morning swim lessons <br /> Held second annual Junior Scramble at Brightwood Hills with 14 two- <br />player teams. <br /> Warm weather brought in 1,010 to the Eagles Nest from July 18-24 this <br />year, compared to 2015 numbers of 440. <br /> Thank the Dairy Queen for donating to the New Brighton Scholarship <br />fund by giving 10% of their sales on designated Tuesdays d uring the <br />summer. August 16 is the next date. The last date brought in over <br />$200. <br /> A practice bunker has been installed at Brightwood Hills. The project <br />was all done in house. <br />Other updates: 90 day fitness pass; last year 6 passes sold; this year 24 passes sold. <br />The Community Center Annual shutdown is from September 6 – 9; the Community <br />Center will be closed. This year the HVAC system will be replaced. August 9 & 10 is the <br />annual ice cream social for youth sports participants. We thank Dairy Queen and <br />Culvers who each have a night and are donating to these events. There will be over 400 <br />youth and parents attending over the two days. Photos will be handed out. The request <br />to open earlier on Sundays at the Community Center begins October 2, 2016. Opening <br />time is 8am vs the prior time of 10am. <br /> <br />Lori Hokenson was hired to replace Heidi Sedlacek. Lori will start August 22nd. She <br />comes to New Brighton with a strong senior and aquatics background. <br /> <br />Chair Kunesh-Podein mentioned we will meet on September 7 and Octo ber 5. <br /> <br />Director Breuer mentioned that about 1 year ago the Parks and Recreation Department <br />got involved in the MRPA program “Did You Know?” The point is to take a statistic that <br />is relevant in Parks and Recreation and to share why it is relevant. At the September <br />meeting, PREC members will help write facts. Jason Hicks, Assistant Parks and <br />Recreation Director, will be present to do the training. There will be a work session after <br />the meeting. <br /> <br />On October 5th we will be talking about some policies and having a park amenity <br />discussion. We are getting more and more interest in Pickleball in our community. When
