C. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS)

Commissioner Allen noted the VIPS monthly meeting is scheduled for tomorrow night.

D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update

Director Jacobson reported that Thai Xiong has been given a conditional offer of employment as a
Police Officer. We expect that Mr. Xiong will begin work here in about three weeks. He is currently
employed by Metro Transit PD as a CSO and has been one our Police Reserves for about three years.
He was recruited to the Reserve Program by Sgt. Sypniewski.

We are in a hiring process for other potential openings for Police Officer. We have had two rounds
of interviews and a third round with three final candidates will be on May 11th. We could have up to
four vacancies in 2016.

Our Police Explorer Advisor Kathy McNeely recently received statewide recognition as the Police
Explorer Advisor of the Year in Minnesota. Officer McNeely has been a longtime Explorer Advisor
and the award is very deserving. Officer McNeely has also coordinated the Santa Cop program and
is a CPR instructor.

The City's Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held last night with Ralph Reeder Food Shelf
receiving recognition as the Community Partner of the Year and Bruce Howard receiving Volunteer
of the Year. Mr. Howard is a longtime member of the City's planning commission. Congratulations
to Mr. Howard and the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf.

Council Liaison
A. Council Report

Council Member Brian Strub, noted several items including the following:

The Town Hall Meeting/Open House will be on Saturday, May 7, from 9 am to Noon.
At the April 12th Council meeting, a Haz Mat grant for training was accepted.
The Annual New London to New Brighton Mini Cooper run is scheduled for Saturday, May
21, and will end at Eurotech Auto Service.
Construction on the County Road E2 bridge started today; detours are marked. The bridge is
expected to be completed in August.

Old Business

No old business.

New Business
A.
