Councilmember Bauman suggested the zip line portion of the project be delayed until there is funding in place.
Wallace estimated this portion of the project cost $20,000 and noted this piece of equipment could be added at
a later date.
Mayor Johnson suggested the Lions assist with the fundraising efforts as they were a 501 C. She believed this
organization would be very capable in assisting the City with raising an additional $40,000. She questioned
when the playground would be installed. Hicks anticipated the project would be installed later this summer or
early this fall.
Councilmember Strub thanked staff and the individuals serving on the task force for their efforts. He
understood there were some motivated individuals on the task force willing to raise funds but he believed the
Lions should be brought in on this as well. It was his hope the broader community could be brought in to
support this great asset.
Councilmember Burg reported this park would be connected to the Ramsey County Regional Park. She feared
that it would not benefit the City to delay any portion of the project as it could cost more in the end.
Councilmember Bauman stated she approved of the playground colors.
Mayor Johnson was proud of the fact this project had been largely community driven. She thanked staff for the
thorough report on this park.
Police RFP from Falcon Heights
Lotter reported the New Brighton Public Safety Department wanted to know how to respond should the City
receive an RFP from the City of Falcon Heights for police services. He noted the City had received a letter of
interest from Falcon Heights. He reported Director Paetznick was not interested in pursuing this further. He
requested the Council provide staff with direction on how to respond.
The consensus of the Council was to not have the Public Safety Department respond to the letter of interest and
to encourage Falcon Heights to pursue services with Ramsey County or from an adjoining city.
Worksession adjourned at 6:13 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Terri Marohn
City Clerk
