Facilities Manager Bach added that <br />Commercial Recreation Specialist would be warehousing common replacement parts in Wisconsin for quick <br />replacement. <br />Councilmember Burg stated she was not comfortable with the Commereial Recreation Specialist bid given <br />the fact the product would be coming from China and the City Council had no knowledge or history with the <br />long-term durability oftheir parts. She believed this company had no long-term experience with high-end, <br />high -use play structures. She recommended the Council be allowed to review pieces ofthe proposed <br />structure prior to moving forward. <br />Mayor Johnson commented that just because something came out of China, did not mean it was of poor <br />quality. She understood the vendor was meeting all ofthe City's safety requirements and she was hesitant to <br />change directions on this project based on a gut feeling. She suggested the Council delay action until the next <br />Council meeting and request the vendor provide the City Council with samples oftheir playground structure <br />equipment. <br />Councilmember Burg appreciated this statement, but explained this was a very large purchase for the City to <br />make and she wanted to be assured that the quality and durability of the new structure was comparable to Soft <br />Play. <br />Councilmember Bauman understood Councilmember Burg's concerns but noted this vendor was meeting all <br />safety requirements for structures constructed around the world. It was her opinion Recreation Commercial <br />Specialists had met all ofthe City's safety requirements. She stated this was a U.S. company and she did not <br />have the same hesitations as Councilmember Burg. <br />Councilmember Strub stated he heard the hesitation from Councilmember Burg, but understood PREC <br />scored this playground structure very well. He suggested tabling action on this item to the first Council <br />meeting in June in order for the vendor to provide a presentation and provide samples to the City Council. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen indicated he heard the hesitation from the Council as well and stated he wanted to <br />make a very informed decision on the playground structure given the nature ofthe clientele using the Eagles <br />Nest He stated he could support the item being tabled in order to allow the Council to meet with <br />representatives from Recreation Commercial Specialists. <br />Mayor Johnson questioned what type of samples Councilmember Burg would like to have at the next <br />Council meeting. Councilmember Burg stated she would like to see samples of netting and plastics from the <br />top two vendors in order for the Council to be able to compare to the City's existing structure. She explained <br />she wanted to make the very best decision and have all ofthe information prior to making a decision on the <br />Eagles Nest. <br />City Manager Lotter asked if a two-week delay would push the demolition and reconstruction ofthe Eagles <br />Nest. Acting Parks and Recreation Director Hicks stated the delay may have an impact on the project <br />timeline. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen questioned if staff would be able to get the vendors to provide the City with <br />samples in two weeks.
