The Department's goal is to maintain the Eagles Nest Indoor Playground as a premier <br />choice for safe indoor play, generate new interest, new business and remain competitive with <br />other recreational or amusement type facilities. The renovation project would be scheduled <br />during the months of September and October. September is the optimal time for this process to <br />begin. NBCC closes to the public during the week of Labor Day for its Annual Maintenance <br />Shutdown and September is the slowest month of the year at the Eagles Nest Indoor <br />Playground. Removal of the current structure will take place during the Annual Maintenance <br />Shutdown Week September 5. The projected reopening of the Eagles Nest is currently planned <br />for November 3. <br />Councilmember Strub requested further information on how much the Eagle's Nest was used. Acting Parks <br />and Recreation Director Hicks stated in the last year over 51,000 admissions were sold. He explained the site <br />also hosted over 1,200 birthdays. He reported the Eagle's Nest was being viewed as a regional amenity. <br />Councilmember Strub questioned how much public input was received for this project along with the amount <br />of revenue was being generated by the Eagle's Nest. Acting Packs and Recreation Director Hicks described <br />the public input process and how the information gathered was incorporated into the project. He reported the <br />Eagle's Nest generates $150,000 annually through admissions along with an additional $100,000 for birthday <br />parties. <br />Councilmember Snub stated he fully supported the replacement ofthe Eagle's Nest and believed this was a <br />vital community asset. <br />Councilmember Burg reported she served as the PREC liaison and had the pleasure ofreviewing each ofthe <br />vendor's proposals. She thanked staff for addressing her quality concerns and for answering her numerous <br />questions. She stated she would be supporting the playground replacement. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen appreciated staffs efforts to address the quality and safety concerns ofthe Council. <br />He explained he was astounded by the continual use ofthis amenity. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter thanked City Clerk Marohn and IT Administrator Barte for their work on <br />the City's website. He explained he would be attending the League of Minnesota Cities <br />Conference Wednesday through Friday of this week. He commented on the Council's <br />upcoming worksession topics. He provided the Council with an update on the water treatment <br />plant and the TUV SUD project. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the EDC met last Wednesday where the group received <br />orientation information along with a recap on NBE. She explained the EDC has changed their <br />meeting date for July to the 12`h. She indicated the Cable Commission recently held a strategic <br />planning meeting and provided the Council with a summary from this meeting. <br />Mary Buri <br />Councilmember Burg reported PREC would meet next on July 22nd <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Public Safety Commission met last night and discussed <br />body worn cameras. He thanked all of the Commissioners who serve on this group. In <br />addition, the group discussed the measles outbreak. He explained the Public Safety <br />Department would be hiring a part-time Public Safety Officer. He noted the Fill the Boot <br />campaign would be held in the coming weeks.
