December 13, 2016 Page 2 of 11 <br />Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to approve the <br />Truth In Taxation Budget Hearing minutes from the December 6, 2016 meeting. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br />Mayor Johnson received the following minutes on behalf of the City: <br /> Public Safety Commission minutes from October 24, 2016. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> 1. Recognition of Tony Paetznick’s Promotion to Director of Public Safety. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Bauman, seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to recognize <br />the promotion of Tony Paetznick to Director of Public Safety. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter stated it was a momentous evening for the City of New Brighton. He <br />discussed the legacy of service Bob Jacobsen provided to the City and then recognized Deputy <br />Chief Tony Paetznick’s promotion to Director of Public Safety. He discussed Public Safety <br />Director Paetznick’s work history and positive personality traits. He congratulated Public <br />Safety Director Paetznick on his promotion. A round of applause was offered by all in <br />attendance. <br />Councilmember Bauman stated she has been on the receiving end of Officer Paetznick’s <br />kindness and compassion when her mother passed away. She thanked him for his service to <br />the community and stated she was very happy for Public Safety Director Paetznick. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen believed New Brighton had a wonderful Public Safety Department. <br />He thanked former Public Safety Director Bob Jacobsen for his strong leadership and for <br />building such a great organization. He stated he had great confidence in Public Safety Director <br />Paetznick going forward. <br />Councilmember Strub discussed a racial justice forum he attended last month that was <br />conducted by Public Safety Director Paetznick. He appreciated Director Paetznick’s <br />compassionate approach to law enforcement. He wished Public Safety Director Paetznick well <br />in his new leadership role. <br />Councilmember Burg was proud of the relationships the Public Safety Department had with <br />the community. She wished Public Safety Director Paetznick all the best in his new role. <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Public Safety Director Paetznick to his new position. She was honored to have a <br />hometown boy in this role. She encouraged Public Safety Director Paetznick to lead the City well. <br />Public Safety Director Paetznick thanked the Council and stated it was truly an honor to serve this <br />community. He discussed the numerous ways his family and extended family had served the public over the <br />years. He believed he has inherited a great organization and he was humbled to be their leader. Accept Minnesota Brownfield’s 2016 ReScape Award for New Brighton Exchange. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to Accept the <br />Minnesota Brownfield’s 2016 ReScape Award for the New Brighton Exchange. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter stated on November 17, 2016 the City of New Brighton received the 2016 <br />Minnesota Brownfields ReScape Award for New Brighton Exchange.
