City Council/Teambuilding Retreat Report
January 7, 2017
Comments:
1.Innovation: What are we doing to assure that we continue to be a great city but also highlight
that which will take us into the future as a great city? What decisions are we making today that
help us set the stage for the future of New Brighton?
2.On a global scale, they are all worthy of Council's attention. However, in the current state, they
could all be rebranded in some way. As a supervisor, I see it as very important for workforce
development. Economic development on the other hand may require
Council to be more involved.
3.Economic Development will need to be modified, the tax base goals have been achieved the
KPIs need to be modified or updated.
Q6: Sacred Cows: In your opinion, what are the “sacred cows” (an idea, custom, department, role or
person held, especially unreasonably, to be above questioning or doubt), if any, in New Brighton?
Why?
❑Public Safety
❑Water Quality
❑Our Form of Government
❑Parks
❑The Golf Course
❑Fire Relief
❑Raises/steps, Salary structures
❑Water
❑Keeping payroll and utility billing in-house
❑One City, One Set of Services, One Set of Resources
Q7: Challenges: What do you see as the biggest challenges facing our City in the next two years?
♦Employee retention and development
♦Over taxation
♦Aging Housing
♦Aging population
♦Spending on items like Welcome Monuments
♦Discussion regarding even year voting
♦Solving the DX issue
♦Finishing the water treatment plant project
3.Economic
Development
87.50%
14
12.50%
2
0.00%
0
0.00%
0
0.00%
0

16

1.13
4.EffecSve
Service Quality
50.00%
8
50.00%
8
0.00%
0
0.00%
0
0.00%
0

16

1.50
5.Workforce
Engagement
and
Development
25.00%
4
56.25%
9
18.75%
3
0.00%
0
0.00%
0

16

1.94
9
Report prepared by Barbara Strandell
