<br />City Council/Teambuilding Retreat Report <br />January 7, 2017 <br />Small Group Exercise: Branding – Telling Our Story <br />Using the brainstorming ideas (above), the groups were asked to identify key themes for telling the <br />New Brighton Story: Where would you begin? What would you emphasize? <br />#1 - Family, Proximity (Work group: Brian Strub, Dan Olson, Craig Schlichting) <br />⇒Schools, Lake, Night out, Parkway, Hidden treasure, Best kept secret <br />#2 - Safe Community, next to downtown (Work group: Gina Bauman, Trevor Hamdorf, Tony Paetznick) <br />#3 - Urban/suburban wedge (Work group: Paul Jacobsen, Andre Bart, Janice Gundlach) <br />⇒Safe, progressive thinking, Life cycle housing (not too much); Live, work, play <br />#4 - Location (both downtowns; MSP; National Night Out top 3) (Work group: Val Johnson, Brenda Davitt, <br />Patty Isaacson) <br />⇒Best kept secret - Res. family parks <br />⇒Small town feel; innovative, cutting edge <br />⇒Community Center; HL and SEC <br />⇒Water solution <br />#5 - Location 694/494 (Work group: Mary Burg, Sandy Breuer, Jason Hicks) <br />⇒Jobs <br />⇒Small town feel, Good Neighborhoods, Safe, National Night Out <br />⇒Schools. Community Center <br />These ideas and assets are to be considered in a future Visioning process. Below are the ideas discussed. <br />Clearly location/proximity and sense of community lead the list. <br />_________________________________________ <br />The Pre-retreat Survey <br />Prior to the workshop retreat, the City Council and Senior Staff were surveyed about their views on the <br />current status of the city and future goals and priorities. Below is the list of the questions asked.
