<br /> <br />Memo <br /> <br />To: Mayor and Council Members <br /> Manager Lotter <br />From: Jason Hicks, Acting Parks and Recreation Manager <br /> Chris Wolla, Parks Superintendent <br />Subject: New Brighton Lions Park Playground <br />Date: April 20, 2017 <br /> <br />New Brighton Lions Park is currently under construction with the hopes of having <br />a playground installed late summer/early fall of 2017. Neighborhood residents <br />are eagerly waiting for the installation. <br /> <br />New Brighton Lions Park has been a long time in the making. The Parks, <br />Recreation and Environmental Commission (PREC) finalized a recommendation <br />of park amenities to Council on June 5, 2013. The City entered into a <br />professional services agreement with Anderson-Johnson Associates on February <br />23, 2016. Council approved the plans and specs and authorized staff to <br />advertise for bids on September 13, 2016. Ramsey Excavating was awarded the <br />bid on October 11, 2016. The bid included the installation of a container and <br />poured in place surfacing for the playground. <br /> <br />A task force was created to assist in the playground design. The task force was <br />comprised of six residents of the Enclave and one PREC member. The task <br />force researched different playground amenities, met with playground vendors <br />and will ultimately recommend a playground for installation at New Brighton Lions <br />Park. <br /> <br />One of the desires of the task force was to have a fully accessible playground. <br />This would be the first of its kind in New Brighton and would allow anyone with an <br />ambulatory disability to access the playground. <br /> <br />Vendors presented plans to the task force on January 18. From these <br />presentations, the task force determined they are going to recommend a play <br />structure that requires a larger footprint than originally planned.
