Community Engagement PlanDRAFT A-37
Meeting #General Comments (overheard by staff or included on Comment Card)
2 Need bathroom access in early fall, winter, and spring for walkers
2 New Brighton is a great place to live. Need to keep up infrastructure. Make as walkable as possible
2
Vadnais Heights. How can residents' sorties help promot NB and assist outreach? Promoted on website -
promote diversity of stories: rich, poor, different religions, immigrants & lifetime Minnesotans, etc. Need better
local paper that's only NB, primarily online and mobile friendly - invite resident-generated content - call it
"Nota Bene"? (NB for NB). As a runner, I'd love to see more unpaved trails, expansive trail system, use rails.
For Comprehens Plan webpage & social pinpoint - use a URL shortener so it's easier to remember and type in
browser - custom short domain for NB like: newbr.tn or nwbrt.on
2
As a young entrepreneur, I'd love more amenities for small business and tech business owners: Better WiFi access
and improved speeds; co-working spaces; better restaurants, breweries, etc (encourage ethnic restaurants);
more bike paths; more mass transit to Mpls & St. Paul! Thanks!
2 Improve Silver Lake Road for pedestrians & bicycles - need wider sidewalks. Keep up with trail replacements and
repairs in the parks
2
I think it's important to concentrate on excilling in areas where New Brighton CAN be great. NB cannot be great
for all things (e.g. shopping), but should be able to excel in a few areas. So we should identify our strengths, and
capitalize on those.
2 Come up with ways to utilize the Community Centers, City Hall, Gym, etc. Host "Night Out"
2 With climate change a certainty, the expected consequences (extreme rain events, heat stress on trees and other
vegetation, heat stress on housing and residents) need to be taken into account in the next comprehensive plan
2
We need to more fully realize the resources we have here, ie neighborhood centers, NBCC. Ensure people
feel safe on paths. Need more community communication. Need to protect and improve New Brighton assets.
Connect people more easily to necessary resources.
2 Downtown needs a lot of work. Start an ethnic foods festival
2 Please clean up old neighbors - trash, cars on lawns, garbage cans all over!
2 Need to look at how climate change will impact the city – in recent years we’ve had issues with water shortages
(drought) as well as higher risk of flooding
2 Need to be more proactive with programs that keep up housing stock/maintenance assistance, especially need
to focus on getting resources to seniors who still own
2 It’d be nice to have a place to in town to sit down and have a coffee
2 Build more infrastructure/parks that are “butterfly friendly”
2
This event has issues of accessibility
»The event space is small, with this many people makes it difficult to hear conversations
»Small print on the materials and some of the colors can be difficult to read
»The event space is crowded, making moving around difficult, especially for those with mobility issues
2 Any gateway entrances should be tasteful and have an artistic involvement – should correspond with signage
throughout the city
2 Need a theater in the city
2 Concerns about the safety of the drinking water
