Despite our best efforts at prevention, the Public Safety Department continues to respond to
opioid overdoses with unfortunate regularity. With the increasing presence of even more toxic
opioid combinations and the threat those drugs place upon the victims and responders, the Public
Safety Department reached out to a local foundation, to partner with to purchase the Naloxone
responder kits.

The For Jakes Sake Foundation, dedicated to the memory of Jake, a victim of the opioid
epidemic, has donated to the City of New Brighton 20 Naloxone First Responder Kits to be used
in saving lives. The Public Safety Department will be placing these kits in to service and they
will allow us to immediately administer the drug to counteract the physiological effects of an
opioid overdose. Staff sincerely appreciates the donation of these kits, and despite the
immeasurable tragedy of losing a loved one to this epidemic, staff is confident that the memory of
Jake will live on in all of the lives these kits will be responsible for saving.

________________________________________
Trevor Hamdorf
Deputy Director of Public Safety.

Attachments:
• Resolution
