<br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />STRATEGIC PLAN 2018 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Service Description <br /> <br />City Manager’s Office <br />The City Manager's Office is responsible for overseeing <br />service delivery and operations for all municipal <br />departments. It supports the Mayor and City Council's <br />policy-making responsibilities and supports the Council <br />decision making process through the preparation of <br />Council agendas and supporting materials. The City <br />Manager is responsible for ensuring that Council policy <br />directions are implemented in a timely and professional <br />manner. This department handles all human resources and <br />labor relation activities, including personnel hiring and <br />firing, staff evaluations, contract negotiations, benefits <br />review and administration, and staff training. The <br />Assistant City Manager is responsible for the human resources functions of the City as well as <br />providing support to the City Manager. Ultimately, accountable to the City Council, the City <br />Manager is responsible for the financial state of the City execution of any and all long-term <br />plans. <br /> <br />In 2017, the City Council developed five goals to assist in guiding the work of the City of New <br />Brighton staff. These goals and corresponding tactics and initiatives include: <br />1. Water – Provide safe drinking water and public confidence <br />2. Fiscal – Stewarding of the tax dollar to make the best investments for the City of <br />New Brighton and its future <br />3. Development – Implement economic development initiatives <br />4. Infrastructure – Maintain and improve the infrastructure of the City of New <br />Brighton, including streets, sewer, lights, parks, etc. <br />5. Community Engagement/Services – Continue to create more opportunities for <br />council and staff initiated outreach to community groups and participation in <br />community events <br />It is the responsibility of the City Manager’s office to ensure that the organization is focused on <br />these goals and executing initiatives to achieve these goals on a city-wide level. The City <br />Manager’s office will continually provide updates to the City Council, appointed officials and <br />staff members on the status of achieving these goals. <br /> <br />Another service provided through the City Manager’s office is the role of the Office Assistant. <br />This position is responsible for providing support the City Council, City Manager and Assistant <br />City Manager. The Office Assistant plays a role in human resources functions and assists in <br />answering questions that the public may have. <br /> Ensures that the Strategic Plan is <br />implemented successfully by the <br />City. <br /> Provide leadership & support to <br />Council <br /> Manage human resource related <br />functions and organizational <br />trainings <br /> Ensure effective communication <br />with the public and staff <br /> Collaborate and liaison with <br />organizations, community <br />groups, and neighboring cities <br /> Promote & enhance efficiencies <br />and responsiveness in the City <br /> Encourage citizen engagement <br />ADMINISTRATION <br />10
