The City is proud to have been recognized as a <br />“Tree City USA” for the past 35 years. <br /> <br />Program brochures describing all activities are produced and mailed to homes in New <br />Brighton seasonally. Registration is provided on the website www.newbrightonmn.gov as well <br />as by fax, phone and in person. The department is proud to provide high quality, diverse, <br />accessible, and affordable programs to residents of New Brighton and surrounding communities. <br />Activities range from aquatics programs, dance, gymnastics, full day summer child care, youth <br />and adult sport leagues, senior trips and fitness classes. <br /> <br />The New Brighton Community Center is home to the Parks & Recreation Department <br />and a focal point for the community. It serves as a gathering place for New Brighton and <br />surrounding areas, and is visited by 480,000 patrons annually for recreational, social, and <br />business purposes. Annually, the NBCC hosts around 1,000 birthday parties, 130 Eagles Nest <br />group visits, 1,300 business rentals, 230 receptions and events, 190 community group meetings, <br />and has 1,542 active members. Its features include a fitness center, walking/running track, <br />gymnasium, fitness studio, the Eagles Nest Indoor Playground, NBCC Meeting and Events <br />Center, multi-purpose rooms, and senior room. In addition, the NBCC leases space to Knotworks <br />Massage, Ramsey County Library and WIC (Women, Infant & Children). Knotworks Massage <br />became a tenant in 2011. The Ramsey County Library’s lease began in April 2011 and the lease <br />is for 20 years. WIC’s lease began in 2010 and the lease is a 30 year agreement. <br /> <br />Changes to Proposed Service Level or Revenue <br /> <br />The Parks, Recreation, and Trails Strategic Plan was approved by City Council on May <br />23, 2006. The purpose of this plan is that it provides vision, priorities, goals, policies, and <br />detailed work plans for the future delivery of parks and recreation services. Areas of emphasis <br />include recreation programs, Brightwood Hills Golf Course, trails and sidewalks, public art and <br />youth services. The community had an amazing level of involvement. The City and the <br />consulting firm facilitated a series of public workshops, focus groups, and meetings to learn <br />about the community’s park and recreation needs. The information gathered at these meetings, <br />along with a community survey, was the basis for the final plan. Through the Parks, Recreation, <br />and Trails Strategic Plan, the New Brighton Parks and Recreation Department is committed to <br />improving health, protecting natural resources, fostering healthy youth development, sustaining <br />fiscal responsibility and supporting community reinvestments. <br /> <br />Capital improvement (fleet and non-fleet) items and the pavement management plan were <br />allotted a funding source. It is important to maintain this funding mechanism so the City’s park <br />system infrastructure and equipment remain current and safe. Both the parks and New Brighton <br />Community Center require significant replacements to continue meeting the needs of the system. <br /> <br />In order to maintain high levels of customer service, training is conducted for all regular <br />part-time and seasonal staff. This is accomplished through group trainings and individual based <br />opportunities. The goal is for all employees to be prepared to meet and exceed their job <br />responsibilities on a daily basis. <br /> <br />Marketing of all department services has been enhanced to attract new participants to the <br />City’s recreation programs, parks and facilities. An emphasis has been placed on social media, <br />cross marketing services, facilities, promotion to current system users, as well as to increase <br />46
