7

the red winged black birds; love hearing the birds and I really don’t want to
hear the pickleball.
 Amy Weber, 3220 Peckswood Turn. Outside the mailing area. Hadn’t
heard about this until about a week ago. She and her husband just started
playing tennis two years ago. We are really bad. We love that court. It has
a nice neighborhood feel. There is a sense of community and it’s ok if
you’re not good. You are trying your best. We don’t have to get other
friends together. We just go when we want. The only time we play at
another court is when both the courts are full, then we play somewhere
else. Heard about Shoreview. She has worked in the school system both
in Shoreview and on this end and they are very different communities.
Let’s not assume what Shoreview people want is what we want.
 Michelle Veillette, 2908 Brookshire Lane, the gentleman who spoke said
that pickleball is 8am to 11am daily and then in the evening. I want you to
know that pretty much everyone who is in the perimeter around the tennis
court is home daily. We all stay at home. The noise issue is really, really
huge. We are not opposed to pickleball; just not at that court.
 Jason Lee, 1501 28th Ave NW, the initial comments in consideration of the
location, Hansen Park was not considered because there is some kind of
a tennis program there. The courts at Hansen are two courts. They are in
the middle of a big park area. Why not move that program to a different
location and put the pickleball at Hansen? He is not against pickleball.

Chair Fields thanked everyone who shared information with us. This Commission is all
residents of New Brighton and we are volunteers and we care about the parks as well.
We appreciate you sharing so we have good information in order to put a motion in
order to the City Council. Thank you for your time and sharing your information with us
this evening.

MOTION BY COMMISSIONER STENGLEIN, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER
QUADE, TO PUT THIS DECISION ON HOLD FOR NOW. WITH THIS NEW DATA,
THERE IS A NEED FOR FURTHER DISCUSSION.

Commissioner Justin commented that he appreciates all the people who are involved
with this. W hen this commission is accused of not listening and not participating and just
doing things fast, he does not agree. There were 5 meetings over 5 months, that is a lot
of meetings that we discussed this. We are volunteers, spending our time up here. We
are happy you attended because you came out as a community and informed us that
this is not something you want, because of good reasons, not just because you did not
want it in your backyard. Liked hearing all of your concerns. Pickleball is something that
is going to be around. This commission has had interested parties come forward
because they are interested. Now you come forward because you are interested.
Thanks to the gentleman who came forward in favor of pickleball. That is hard to do with
most on the other side.

Chair Fields commented that we need to try to take care of everyone in the community,
not just tennis and pickleball players.

Commissioner Justin stated we do care. We are glad you came out. If only two would
have come, it would have been completely different. Discussion may involve looking at
