REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Consider Approval of Ordinance 854 Amending Article 4, <br />Chapter 2 of the New Brighton City Code Regarding Commissions & a Resolution <br />Authorizing Publication by Title and Summary <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Dean Lotter, City Manager <br />CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______ <br /> 7/25/15 <br />Recommendation: Adopt Ordinance No. 854 Amending Article 4, Chapter 2 of the <br />New Brighton City Code regarding commissions and approve a Resolution Authorizing <br />Publication by Title and Summary. <br />Legislative History: <br />Work session discussion regarding proposed changes to Article 4, Chapter 2 <br />regarding City Commissions <br />Financial Impact: <br />There is no financial impact in regards to the proposed changes. <br />Explanation: <br />The Council has previously discussed changes and updates to the City Code regarding City <br />Commissions. One of the goals of these proposed changes is to ensure that the New Brighton <br />City Commissions are responsive to and reflective of the City Council at any given point of time. <br />Another goal is to ensure that the commissions are able to carry out their work in the most <br />effective and efficient manner possible. The changes to Article 4 can be found in the strike <br />through version attached to this document. A summary of the major changes can be found below: <br />Sec. 2-56 General. <br />Language was added to this section that states “Commissioners serve at the pleasure of the City <br />Council. As City Council make up changes from time to time, it is appropriate that the <br />membership of each commission changes to reflect the direction of the City Council”. This <br />statement was added to provide context <br />Sec. 2-58. Commission Size <br />Rather than all commissions have a maximum of nine (9) members except for the Public Safety <br />Commission which currently can have ten (10), this section of the code was edited so that all <br />commissions shall have a maximum of nine (9) members.
