August 22, 2017 Page 2 of 7 <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br />Mayor Johnson received the following minutes on behalf of the City: <br /> PREC Minutes from June 22, 2017. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> 1. Recognition of Fire Department of the Year Award. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter explained Public Safety Director Paetznick would be presenting this item to the Council. <br />Public Safety Director Paetznick stated as part of his attendance at the 2017 Fire Department <br />Instructors Conference (FDIC), Fire Captain Andre Barte submitted a narrative application <br />describing the industry-leading performance of the New Brighton Department of Public Safety <br />Fire Division. Elements included maintaining the paid-on-call organizational structure while <br />still achieving high-levels of participation and fast response times to incidents, the <br />department’s focus on fire prevention and education targeted at high-risk populations and <br />facilities, the ongoing commitment to training and continuing education of firefighters, and the <br />agency’s engagement with the community. He called all of the firefighters in attendance <br />forward, presented them with the Fire Department of the Year Award and recognized them for <br />their efforts. <br />Mayor Johnson congratulated the New Brighton Public Safety Fire Division for receiving this <br />high honor. She stated she was so proud of this City and its Public Safety Department. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen stated he believed the New Brighton Public Safety Department was <br />well deserving of this award. He thanked the Police and Fire Divisions for their dedicated <br />service to the community. <br />Councilmember Burg commended the Fire Division for their efforts and thanked Andre Barte <br />for submitting an application on behalf of the City of New Brighton. <br />Councilmember Bauman appreciated the efforts of Andre Barte as well and thanked the men <br />and women wearing uniforms for making this community proud. <br />A round of applause was offered by all in attendance. <br /> <br />2. Proclamation for Retirement of Firefighter Ronald Finney, Sr. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter requested Mayor Johnson read the Proclamation for Retirement. <br />Mayor Johnson read the Proclamation for Retirement for Firefighter Ronald Finney, Sr. in full for the record <br />and thanked him for his 36 years of dedicated service to the community. <br />Councilmember Bauman thanked Mr. Finney for his numerous acts of service to the City of New Brighton. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen appreciated Mr. Finney’s deep dedication to the City over the years. <br />Councilmember Burg thanked Mr. Finney for his service and congratulated him on his retirement. <br />A round of applause was offered by all in attendance. <br /> <br />Consent Agenda <br />1.
