Lotter, City Manager <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL: <br /> <br />No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___ <br />Recommendation: Adopt a Resolution Creating an Inclusive Community Task Force. <br /> <br />Legislative History: Council has talked about creating this Task Force conceptually at previous <br />Council work sessions in September and October of 2017. <br /> <br /> <br />Financial Impact: None <br /> <br /> <br />Explanation: Mayor Johnson and City staff has been talking with community members and the <br />City Council in recent weeks about creating a Task Force that would be charged with various <br />work directives related to ensuring New Brighton is an inclusive community. The term inclusive <br />community is being used to identify a community that has a healthy sense of belonging and is <br />seen as welcoming by as many people as possible. <br /> <br />1) Identify ways to continue existing and foster new partners within the three Mounds View Public <br />Schools within New Brighton. <br /> <br />2) Identify and recommend corrective actions to barriers and challenges such as transportation, language, <br />technological (communication outlets), institutional and physical barriers that limit access to <br />information and active engagement for sociologically disadvantage, disabled, youth, elderly and <br />communities. <br /> <br />3) Creating a contact list that would be inclusive of all community organizations (business, geographic, <br />cultural, schools, etc.) that could be used by a liaison for notifying them of important updates about the <br />community and in turn create a conduit of communication or input back to the City on important <br />matters affecting different groups in New Brighton. <br /> <br /> <br />4) The City of New Brighton should strive to create a workforce, including elected and appointed <br />officials and volunteer resources that contain a broad range of diversity including race, gender, <br />language, life experience, and cultural background to improve understanding and effectiveness in <br />dealing with all communities. <br /> <br />Report Number: _____________ <br />Agenda Section: _____________ <br />Report Date October 5, 2017 <br />Council Meeting Date October 10, <br />2017
