Commissioner McGuire – General County Update <br /> <br />Ramsey County Commissioner McGuire thanked the Council for their time. She provided the Council with <br />a presentation and update from the County. She reviewed the vision, mission and goals of the County. The <br />four goals centered on well-being, prosperity, opportunity and accountability. The community indicators <br />were discussed along with the 2018-2019 budget. She reported the County was still taking comments from <br />the public on this matter. She discussed the economic development potential within the TCAAP site and <br />noted the Count y was engaging with cities to partner and support this project. She stated the County was <br />working on more of a comprehensive presentation for this project and this would be coming to cities in the <br />near future. She thanked the City for their great partnership for the Long Lake/Lion’s Park project and noted <br />Long Lake was a number one priority for 2018. <br />Councilmember Strub thanked Commissioner McGuire for her report and spoke further to the tremendous <br />success of Lions Park. He commented on the recent award the New Brighton TZD officer received and <br />explained he appreciated the intergovernmental work being conducted between Ramsey County and New <br />Brighton. <br />Councilmember Burg thanked Commissioner McGuire for her attendance and encouraged the County to <br />pursue and off-leash dog park in New Brighton. She discussed the work the Parks, Recreation and <br />Environmental Committee has done in this area and noted New Brighton does not have space for within a <br />local park. She reported the City was willing to work with the County to bring this amenity to a local County <br />park. <br />Councilmember Bauman thanked Commissioner McGuire for her time and requested further information <br />regarding how Ramsey County would be addressing roads in the coming year. Commissioner McGuire <br />understood roads were a concern for all Ramsey County residents and commented on how the wheel-age tax <br />would be utilized by the County. <br />Councilmember Bauman asked if County taxes would be increasing in the coming year. Commissioner <br />McGuire stated the County would have a 3.4% increase in 2018. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen stated he appreciated the great relationship the City had with Ramsey County and <br />discussed the numerous projects completed between these two entities. He thanked Commissioner McGuire <br />for supporting CPY and NYFS. <br />Mayor Johnson encouraged the County to address the sidewalk along Silver Lake Road near Nystrom & <br />Associates. Commissioner McGuire explained Silver Lake Road was the County’s responsibility but the <br />sidewalk was the responsibility of the City. She indicated she would be speaking with the City about this <br />concern. City Manager Lotter stated he can speak with Community Assets and Development Director <br />Schlichting regarding this matter. <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the expense to treat Long Lake for milfoi l and requested the County work to set <br />aside funds to assist with these treatments. She discussed the amount of traffic that cuts through the City and <br />expressed concern with how New Brighton will be impacted during the MNPASS project. She requested the <br />County look into slowing the cross traffic down along Old Highway 8. She asked that the County mow the <br />grass at the I-694 and Silver Lake Road entrance as this was a gateway entrance into the City that was in poor <br />condition. She encouraged the County to keep in mind the properties available within the New Brighton <br />Exchange for new businesses that could develop in this area. She thanked Commissioner McGuire attending <br />this meeting and for advocating on behalf of the residents of New Brighton. <br /> <br />Consent Agenda <br />1.
